Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens is an American singer and rapper better known under her stage name, Queen Latifah. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah's parents are Lancelot and Rita Owens, both members of the police force. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher, who worked the class at Irvington High School. Latifahs parents split up after Latifah was 10 years old. aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was born and raised within Newark New Jersey attended Catholic school in Newark. Latifah refers to an Arabic word that means "delicate and compassionate". Her aunt bestowed it on her when she was eight. Latifah's height of 5'10" made her a powerful athlete during high school. She performed the hit song Home from The Wiz at a high-school play. Latifah was a member of the Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her career in beatboxing. Latifah is one of the original members of the Flavor Unit, which was at the time a group made up of DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He sent the recording to Yo! MTV Raps who is known as Freddy. The track caught the attention to Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who signed Latifah and released her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
